Fong Family Communiqué – March 2001

After searching for a house the past couple years, we have settled in East Palo Alto. It is a roomy house on a zero lot property line. We do have a small backyard in spite of what a zero lot property implies. We moved during January. The house is slowly taking shape, though we don't anticipate it will be fully furnished until next year.

We are also expecting our second little girl this coming April. The anticipated due date is April 20. Pam thinks that this one is going to arrive early, just like Jamie. We will see. This pregnancy had a rocky start confining Pam to bed rest for nearly 2 months during the first trimester. Fortunately the condition gradually improved and Pam was back to normal towards the second trimester.

Jamie is now an adorable 2-1/2 year old toddler. She is fluent in Cantonese, and just beginning to pick up some English phrases from TV. She is a bright and happy child. She will be attending preschool twice a week starting this coming September. Pam's parents have now moved to Mountain View so that they could be closer to their grandchildren and provide on-demand babysitting service.

To add spice to all the recent changes, both Pam and Mike have fallen out of dot.com trees. Pam's company Savvio.com folded in January and Mike dropped from Pumatech in late March. Pam gained new insights into American family values as she faced discrimination as a pregnant women looking for work. An aside, we could've gotten ourselves into deep financial trouble should our bid for a more expensive house been accepted during this past summer.

Stepping into the realm of life and faith, it seems there is movement on some fronts. Pam had her baptism last Easter at Grace Community Church. Jamie has begun attending Sunday school and really enjoys it. Mike spent time reading, finally finishing a work by Cornel West, The Cornel West Reader. Mike is finally reunited with his piano after many years. He is rediscovering Brahms and Chopin. Also, if anyone feels like giving him pointers on playing jazz, please do! He would love to play a lovely rendition of Misty or My Romance.
